Dr. Tamsin, Turn The Corner’s owner and principal, has always been environmentally conscious. She recently made a couple of large purchases consistent with those beliefs. First, she invested in a Nissan Leaf “zero emissions vehicle” (i.e., electric car), providing an alternative to her electric scooter for getting around town. Second, she organised for solar panels to be installed all over the roof of the clinic in Northcote. Literally, all over…you couldn’t fit any more on if you tried.
The work was done by our friends at Total Solar Solutions. They did an excellent job over a couple of days to complete the installation of 63 panels with a minimum of disruption to our clinic. They also helped us negotiate an agreement to sell any surplus energy we generate back into the grid. Whilst this is common for residential solar installations, it’s no longer straightforward to put this in place for a business premises.
Going forward, we hope that our 63 panels will generate enough power to meet the clinic’s needs in Spring and Autumn. In Winter, we’ll still have to purchase some electricity from the grid… but in Summer, we expect to be exporting power. Over time, the solar panels will pay for themselves, but more importantly, we know that from today we’ve played a small part in helping ensure a brighter future for our children.
